Lucian Speaks with Br. Jim Boynton

Lucian is joined by Brother Jim Boynton, S.J. Brother Jim is the author of Fishers of Men: The Jesuit Mission at Mackinac, 1670 – 1765. Lucian and Brother Jim discuss his life growing up in St. Ignace, working as a tour guide on Mackinac Island, and the influence of the Jesuit missionaries in the Straits of Mackinac on his life. They also discuss the most well-known Jesuit missionary in this region, Fr. Jacques Marquette.
In part two, Lucian and Brother Jim Boynton discuss Fr. Pierre duJuanay, S.J., the pastor at St. Anne Catholic Church on Mackinac Island from 1735 until 1765. They also talk about Magdeleine LaFramboise, a Catholic woman who lived on the island much of her life and was a lay Catholic leader on the Island at a time when there was not a resident priest on the Island. Magdeleine LaFramboise was born in 1780 and died in 1846. Her sarcophagus is in the lower level of St. Anne Church on Mackinac Island in the historical exhibit about the Church.
