Theology of Place: Taking Port William with You
|
Early chapters of Genesis lay out a key premise of Christian thought and theology: namely that God created human beings as embodied, embedded creatures, planting them in places like gardens to work and play, live and flourish. Catholic theology particularly emphasizes that the Spirit of God comes to us through material stuff: water, oil, bread, wine, buildings and holy places. Every Mass we are reminded that God Incarnate gives himself to us through things embodied. Increasingly, however, our culture offers us a disembodied reality through technologies that displace us, leaving us isolated, lonely, and disoriented. It is this sort of modern tendency we at Fish on Friday hope to resist, to challenge, by offering an alternative model. Family, faith, friendship, food, fun, festivals—all these return us to a situated embodied relationality. (click here to continue reading)

Adventuring to Find Theology of Place

Be still and know that I am God! (Psalms 46:10 NRSCVE) Over the past two weeks, I have been intentionally striving to walk closer with God, focusing on having fun, being present, and listening to the whisper of His voice—to be still. The world is so loud, but it only disrupts our peace when we allow it to divert our attention from the Lord.
